KUWAIT CITY, Aug 19: Three of the five Egyptian fishermen have been arrested by the Kuwait Coast Guard for violating fishing laws and regulations, reports Al-Rai daily.

The daily said the five men were spotted by the Coast Guard patrol boat and pursued them to prevent them from escaping.

However, the men called their sponsor and said they were being chased by Coast Guard and the former told them to abandon their trawler and escape on land. Meanwhile, a report was sent to the General Directorate of the Coast Guard about the fishermen escaping from the patrol boats of the Public Authority for Agricultural Affairs and Fish Resources (PAAAFR) at sea.

On reaching the land, the fishermen and their sponsor were involved in a fight with the coastguard men, who had to fire in the air to control the situation.

The sponsor and three fishermen were taken into custody while two others managed to escape. In the same context, Deputy Director-General of PAAAFR Marzouq Al-Habbi denied what has been posted in the social media about violence and involvement of a number pf PAAAFR employees in the fight with some fishermen. He stressed the PAAAFR employees have nothing to do with the incident.
