ABU DHABI, Sept 22: The UAE announced Wednesday that it is not mandatory to wear face masks in some public places, while social distancing of two meters remains in place. This decision comes after monitoring the noticeable decrease in the number of COVID-19 infections countrywide, the Ministry of Health and Prevention and the UAE National Emergency Crisis and Disaster Management Authority said in a joint press statement.

It is not mandatory to wear a mask while exercising outside, in the car with other people from the same house, on the beach, in hair salons and in medical centers for diagnostic and treatment services, the statement clarified. Local authorities will be obligated to put up signs showing places where not wearing a mask is allowed, it added. The statement underlined needing to wear a mask in places where it is obligatory, as all studies confirmed that the mask is a vital way of preventing the virus, and those who do not wear it will have to bear relevant consequences. It stressed following precautionary measures set by concerned authorities to ensure health security, safety and prevention. (KUNA)
