AUSTRALIA, Nov 4, (Agencies); A tragic incident occurred in Australia on Wednesday when a 10-year-old boy lost his life after being crushed by an elevator at a school, as reported by the police.
According to a statement released by New South Wales Police on Wednesday, emergency services were dispatched to a school in Wahroonga following reports of a child trapped. The statement mentioned, "Officers from the Kuring-Gai Police Area Command arrived at the scene to find a ten-year-old boy trapped under an elevator. Fire and Rescue NSW made efforts to rescue the boy, but tragically, he lost his life at the scene."
St. Lucy's School confirmed the devastating news in a Facebook post on Wednesday, expressing their profound sorrow at the loss of one of their students. The school stated, "St. Lucy’s School is very sad to confirm the tragic death of one of our students. We are cooperating with the investigating police." They further announced the temporary closure of the school for students and requested privacy and space for their students, families, and staff as they grieve and remember their beloved student.
New South Wales Police mentioned in their statement that a crime scene had been established, and a recovery operation was in progress. As of Friday, there have been no further updates from the authorities.
In a letter addressed to parents, St. Lucy's School's principal, David Raphael, identified the young victim as Sanad Shahriar. Raphael expressed, "It is with sadness that I can inform you of the passing of Sanad Shahriar. We understand that this is distressing news. The school is in the process of preparing information to help your child understand the passing of Sanad."
Sanad was remembered in a heartfelt Facebook post by the Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology alumni group, which reportedly included Sanad's father. The post conveyed the heartbreaking news of the passing of Hasan Shahriar's only son, who was just 10 years old, in the school incident and requested prayers for the young Sanad, Hasan Shahriar, and Dr. Yasmin.
