KUWAIT CITY, Jan 11: Minister of State for Municipal Affairs and Minister of State for Communications and Information Technology Dr. Rana Al-Faris announced Tuesday the handover of the South Qairawan area to the Public Authority for Housing Welfare, which accommodates nearly 2,200 housing units, benefiting 11,000 male and female citizens. In a press statement, Al-Faris said that the Cabinet, with a direct support of His Highness the Prime Minister Sheikh Sabah Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah, confirmed the government’s interest in the housing issue. “We are looking forward during the coming period to strengthening cooperation between the Kuwait Municipality and the Municipal Council to direct efforts towards allocating more lands and have more housing projects that serve citizens and contribute to reducing the waiting period,” she said.

Minister Al-Faris emphasized keenness of the Council of Ministers to solve the housing issue. She also praised efforts of the National Assembly and the Parliamentary Housing Committee, and their cooperation with the President and members of the Municipal Council, as well as the Director General of Kuwait Municipality in solving the housing file. For his part, Minister of State for Housing Affairs and Minister of Social Affairs and Labor Mubarak Al-Aro considered that the Cabinet’s approval to allocate the South Qairawan and its handover to the Public Authority for Housing Welfare reflects the keenness of all parties to address the housing file urgently. Al-Aro explained that this step of is the first of constructive cooperation between the Municipality, and the Housing welfare to resolve this issue in a way that serves the citizens, (KUNA)
