KUWAIT CITY, Feb 15: Brigadier General Dr. Hussein Al-Ajmi, Director of the Environmental Police Department at the Ministry of Interior, disclosed that 130 individuals were prosecuted last year, with 28 facing deportation due to environmental law violations. This revelation emerged during a training session titled "Protecting Natural Reserves by Environmental Laws," organized by the General Authority for Agriculture and Fisheries in collaboration with the Environmental Police.
The training course, led by Colonel Saud Al-Otaibi, covered essential legal knowledge for reserve workers and security personnel, along with strategies for handling offenders within natural reserves. Nasser Taqi, the Acting Director General of the Authority, commended the Environmental Police for their efforts in safeguarding natural habitats and urged heightened environmental consciousness among citizens and expats.
Brigadier General Al-Ajmi cautioned against unauthorized entry into fenced natural reserves, emphasizing compliance with environmental regulations to prevent infractions. He highlighted that the Environmental Protection Law strictly prohibits the introduction of foreign flora or fauna into reserves and imposes penalties, including imprisonment for up to one year and fines ranging from 500 to 5,000 dinars.
In 2023, a total of 130 individuals faced legal action for environmental violations, leading to administrative deportation for 28 offenders. Efforts are underway to equip patrols with advanced technology to enforce environmental laws effectively and deter trespassers on reserves.
