Women’s wages intact post-Kuwaiti citizenship loss

KUWAIT CITY, Nov 28:  Acting Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Sheikh Fahad Yousef Saud Al-Sabah, who chairs the Supreme Committee for Investigating Kuwaiti Nationality, announced today that women whose nationalities were revoked under Article 8 of the Nationality Law will retain their employment and salary status.

In a statement to Kuwait News Agency (KUNA), Sheikh Fahad Al-Yousef confirmed that this protection extends to wives of Kuwaiti citizens, as well as divorcees and widows residing in Kuwait. These women will continue to work in their current positions and receive their usual salaries, despite the changes in their nationality status.

Furthermore, Sheikh Fahad Al-Yousef assured that retired women in similar situations will continue to receive their retirement pensions. This decision aims to mitigate the impact of recent amendments to the Nationality Law on affected individuals.

Meanwhile, the Supreme Committee to Investigate Kuwaiti Citizenship held a meeting on Thursday under the chairmanship of Acting Prime Minister, Minister of Defense and Minister of Interior Sheikh Fahad Yousef Saud Al-Sabah, who is also head of the committee. The Ministry of Interior said in a statement that the committee decided to strip 1,758 individuals of Kuwaiti citizenship, pending referral to the Cabinet.
