KUWAIT CITY, July 21: The Ministry of Information recently issued a decision to stop the broadcasting of three channels affiliated with the official Kuwait Television – Al-Qurain, Al-Arabi, and Ithra – effective July 28, clarifying that these channels’ content shall remain exclusively available on its ‘51’ digital platform.

In a video posted on its electronic accounts, the ministry announced “It is possible to watch these channels live and continuously on the ‘51’ platform, while the television broadcast of these channels will stop permanently.”

In the same context, sources told the newspaper that the decision is part of the ministry’s strategy to develop digital content to attract viewers in a more modern way in light of the growing demand for digital platforms. The decision prompted social media platform users to express dissatisfaction over the suspension of satellite channels, which they consider hasty and impulsive.

They pointed out that most of the followers of these channels in and outside Kuwait are from the first generation and do not know how to use electronic applications. They said some phones cannot download the new digital platform for technical reasons, indicating this is an obstacle to watching these channels that focus on heritage and show old series and artistic materials.
