KUWAIT CITY, Aug 17: The linking of General Traffic Departments of the Gulf Cooperation Countries has begun to bear fruit as the Kuwait GTD has succeeded in collecting fines in traffic violations committed by motorists driving Gulf registered vehicles, reports Al-Rai daily. The daily added, these vehicles during their visit to Kuwait, were involved in committing various kinds of violations, including speeding, crossing the red traffic light and reckless driving thus endangering the lives of other motorists and pedestrians.

The daily added, before the linking of the system the collection of fines was almost non-existent in the past. The sources stated that the General Traffic Department recorded, from the beginning of this year until the end of last June, about 400 thousand traffic violations against Gulf-registered vehicles monitored through traffic cameras and radars. The sources explained that the administration sent all the violations to the Gulf countries, to collect the violations from their respective citizens, and to transfer them to the Ministry of Finance and their value was estimated at about 8 million dinars. The sources indicated activating the decision prevented the Gulf vehicles from leaving the border except after paying the traffic fines.
