5 firms vying for Doha Water Distribution Complex project

KUWAIT CITY, Nov 16: Informed sources from the Ministry of Electricity, Water, and Renewable Energy have revealed that five out of six companies are competing for the project related to the establishment, completion, maintenance, and development of the existing and new Doha Water Distribution Complex, and the installation of a water line from the complex to the United Nations Roundabout. The sixth company was excluded per Article 45 of the Public Tenders Law.

The sources explained that the Central Agency for Public Tenders (CAPT) opened the financial bids for the tender during a meeting held on November 11. The results showed that five companies were qualified, with the lowest bid priced at KD 97.386 million and the highest bid at KD 188.760 million, as per the data released by CAPT after the meeting. More than three years were spent in procedural discussions between the ministry and the relevant authorities. However, with the opening of the bids, it is expected to move forward soon, which means the implementation will begin soon. This is one of the important water projects that the ministry is relying on to develop and modernize the water networks sector. The project is expected to significantly enhance the country’s water infrastructure, contributing to an increase in water storage capacity by 130 million imperial gallons and boosting the pumping capacity to 220 million imperial gallons per day. This will ensure a reliable water supply to residential areas, particularly during the summer months and periods of high consumption.

According to the ministry’s plan, the project is set to be completed in 60 months. CAPT is expected to refer the financial bids of the five qualified companies to the Ministry of Electricity, Water, and Renewable Energy for a technical review by a specialized committee. This review is scheduled to take place within a month, under the tender law. Following the technical evaluation, the bids will be returned to CAPT, which will then decide on awarding the contract to the company with the best bid. The contract will then undergo review and auditing by the State Audit Bureau before obtaining final approval. Once the approval is secured, the project will proceed with its implementation.
