ISTANBUL, Jan 22: A 5.2 magnitude earthquake struck the Aegean Sea off the coast of Canakkale, located in western Turkey, the Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD) reported late Tuesday. Fortunately, the tremor resulted in no damage.
The earthquake occurred at 11:38 PM local time, approximately 6.62 kilometers from Ayvacik district, at a depth of 8.65 kilometers.
Canakkale Mayor Omar Torman confirmed via social media that no damage was reported following the earthquake, adding that rescue teams have been deployed across the country and are on high alert.
No tsunami warnings have been issued. (end)
