KUWAIT CITY, Dec 31: Minister of State for Housing Affairs and Minister of State for Municipal Affairs, Abdul Latif Al-Mishari, has approved eight recommendations put forward by the Environmental Affairs Committee during their workshop titled “Jleeb Al-Shuyoukh Environmental System - Community Participation between Situation Assessment and Solutions.” These recommendations were unanimously adopted by the Municipal Council in its session on November 25.
The recommendations approved by Minister Al-Mishari include the following actions:
Field visit coordination: Organize a field visit to Jleeb Al-Shuyoukh, with the participation of all stakeholders involved in the workshop, including relevant departments and committees from the executive body, led by the Municipal Council and the Environmental Affairs Committee.
Pollution and health survey: Conduct a field survey to assess pollution levels, air and water quality, and their impact on public health and disease spread. This will involve the Kuwait Municipality, the Public Environment Authority, the Ministry of Health, the Kuwait Institute for Scientific Research, and the National Center for Space Research, alongside experts in the field.
Cleanliness and animal control: Enforce Kuwait Municipality and Public Environment Authority regulations concerning cleanliness in the area. This aims to improve sanitation and address the issues of rats and stray dogs. Stakeholders in this effort will include the Kuwait Municipality, the Public Authority for Agriculture and Fish Resources, and Rodent Control from the Ministry of Health.
Sewage and drainage system repair: Expedite the repair of the dilapidated sewage, drainage, and rainwater drainage systems in the area in accordance with relevant laws and regulations. This will involve the Kuwait Municipality, the Ministry of Public Works, the Ministry of Interior, and the Public Environment Authority.
Population density and real estate misuse: Address the overcrowding in the area and the misuse of real estate to improve the environmental situation, public cleanliness, and overall quality of life. The Kuwait Municipality, the Ministry of Interior, the Ministry of Manpower, the Civil Information Authority, and the Public Environment Authority will be involved in this effort.
Urgent infrastructure repairs: Develop an emergency plan to address and repair deep potholes and roads in the area, as well as to improve infrastructure in a way that enables supervisory and service authorities to access the area with their vehicles and equipment. The Kuwait Municipality, the Ministry of Public Works, the Ministry of Interior, and the General Fire Force will take part in this initiative.
Awareness campaign: Install awareness signs in multiple languages for expatriates, urging adherence to environmental rules and regulations set by the Kuwait Municipality and the Public Environment Authority. This effort will be led by the Kuwait Municipality, the Ministry of Health, the Manpower Authority, and the Public Environment Authority.
Increased supervision and regulation enforcement: Intensify supervision in the area and ensure strict adherence to all Kuwait Municipality regulations. Violations will be removed, and legal action will be taken to improve the environmental and health situation. Relevant government bodies, including the Kuwait Municipality and the Ministry of Interior, will be involved in ensuring the implementation of regulations, such as those for commercial stores, construction, and agriculture.
The implementation of these recommendations is crucial to improving the environmental, health, and infrastructural conditions in Jleeb Al-Shuyoukh, creating a cleaner and safer environment for its residents.
