KUWAIT CITY, Nov 10: Dr. Abeer Al-Buho, Director of the Health Promotion Department at Kuwait’s Ministry of Health, has raised concerns over rising rates of physical inactivity in the country. According to recent data, approximately 67% of adults in Kuwait are physically inactive, while inactivity among adolescents aged 11 to 17 has reached 84%.
Dr. Al-Buho made these remarks during a training course hosted by the Health Promotion Department in collaboration with the ministry's Primary Care Department. The program focuses on advancing the importance of physical activity and promoting an updated activity guide, now available in both Arabic and English, aimed at increasing health awareness across all age groups.
The course reviews health strategies to encourage physical activity among diverse groups, including those with chronic illnesses, individuals with disabilities, and pregnant and postpartum women. Dr. Al-Buho highlighted the extensive benefits of regular physical exercise, such as reducing the risk of heart disease, stroke, diabetes, and certain cancers, including breast and colon cancer. She also emphasized improvements in mental health, sleep quality, and overall life satisfaction linked to regular activity.
