KUWAIT CITY, Aug 18: Nepalese Ambassador to Kuwait Ghana Shyam Lamsal has confirmed the return of 759 domestic workers; approval of about 87,000 work visa applications; renewal or issuance of more than 13,000 passports and the transfer of KD185,000 compensation to Nepal within 10 months since he assumed the position.

In a telephone call with the daily, Lamsal revealed that he recently met with representatives of the Nepalese community in the country; during which he presented the embassy’s achievements within the abovementioned period. He went on to disclose that 63 Nepalese died in Kuwait and Iraq, and their bodies were repatriated to Nepal over the past ten months. He added the embassy eased procedures for the return of 16 sick workers to Nepal, while four others are currently undergoing treatment in the country.

He added several areas that need improvement to better serve the Nepalese community here were discussed during the meeting; such as upgrading the embassy’s facilities, addressing issues related to the employment and treatment of domestic workers, and raising public awareness on traffic safety and social media systems. He assured those who attended the meeting that their suggestions would be taken into consideration to continue improving the embassy’s services and operations.
