WHEN a free man is enslaved, he cannot forgive the slaver, for the Lord Almighty had created people to be free. Those who seek to enslave others will never find peace, as sooner or later, the slave will seek revenge. The following story contains many morals and lessons about freedom and the benefits it brings to individuals. It is the story of a scholar who traveled to a city and grew fond of it. He became acquainted with its people, purchased a house, furnished it, and decided to settle there. He divided his time between his work and studies, leaving little room for managing personal affairs like laundry and cooking. Due to his busy schedule, he decided to buy a slave to serve him and handle the household chores.
One day, the scholar visited the slave market and searched until his eyes fell upon a beautiful maid whose face resembled the full moon and whose body was like Venus. Unable to resist her charm, he approached the slaver to negotiate a price. After settling the terms, he paid the price and received the ownership document. Just as the maid was about to leave with her new master, she took everyone by surprise. She returned to the slaver and slapped him so forcefully that it seemed his jaw would break. Amidst the astonishment of onlookers, the slaver became furious and tried to take revenge by slapping her back.
However, the young man stepped in between them and informed the slaver that she was no longer his property and that he was now her new master. The slaver begged the young man to return the maid at any price, even double what he had paid. The young man refused, telling him that the maid was not for sale. He advised the slaver to forget about it, warning that the story of the slap could spread and turn the slaver into a public joke. The young man then escorted his maid home, where he prepared a bath for her. He also brought her perfume, with which she perfumed herself. Shortly after, she discovered that he had prepared a delicious meal for her. She sat with him at the dining table and ate greedily while looking at him with relief and an innocent smile on her face.
After a while, the feelings of suspicion, doubt, and confusion between them faded. She began to chat with him and asked, “Why didn’t you ask me why I slapped the slaver?” He replied, “I didn’t need to wait for the answer because I already know. I am sure you slapped him not out of aggression, but for revenge”. She said, “You are right, but do you know what I was seeking revenge for?” He answered, “A free woman was enslaved but she refused to be tamed. As a result, she was severely tortured and harmed.” She looked at him in astonishment, “You are right. I swear by God, I have never met anyone like you. How did you know all this?” He said, “Knowledge that I benefit from, sophisticated roots that raise me high, and the ethics and values that I embrace”. She asked, “Did these three things teach you about the pain of slavery and the humiliation of servitude?” The young man replied without hesitation, “You are free, and you can leave if you wish.” She left as a free woman. Shortly aft er, she returned, accompanied by a sheikh and two witnesses. “Foolish is the one who abandons someone like you. I want to marry you,” she told the young scholar.
