HARBIN, China, Feb 9, (KUNA): Kuwait’s Faris Al-Obaid and Abdulrahman Al-Wahaibi secured spots in the second and decisive round of the slalom skiing competition at the 9th Asian Winter Games "Harbin 2025", following an impressive performance.
Competing in the Alpine Ski-Slalom event at Yabuli Heights, northwest of Harbin, both athletes successfully navigated the course in the first and second rounds, earning valuable points that will boost their international rankings.
Fuhaid Al-Ajmi, head of the Kuwaiti delegation and president of the Kuwait Winter Games Club, commended their strong showing, emphasizing their potential for achieving higher placements in upcoming events.
He highlighted the preparatory training camp in Switzerland, organized in collaboration with the Kuwait Olympic Committee and the Public Authority for Sports, as a key factor in their performance. The specialized coaching staff played a vital role in refining their skills for the continental competition.
Looking ahead, Al-Ajmi expressed confidence in Salman Al-Kandari, who is set to compete in the freestyle skiing event tomorrow, reaffirming the Winter Games Club's commitment to supporting Kuwaiti athletes in various winter sports.
Meanwhile, Al-Wahaibi described their qualification as a major milestone for Kuwait’s winter sports, especially in their first participation at this elite Asian-level slalom competition.
