ABK Enhances Customer Awareness on Financial Fraud

KUWAIT CITY, Jan 26: In line with its ongoing commitment to customer awareness and the protection of personal data, Al Ahli Bank of Kuwait (ABK) is pleased to support the ‘Let's Be Aware’ financial awareness campaign in collaboration with the Central Bank of Kuwait and the Kuwait Banking Association. Recently, Ali Bu Hamad, Head of Complaints and Customer Protection Unit, appeared as a guest on Marina FM to discuss the critical topic of banking and financial fraud.

During the interview, Bu Hamad highlighted the importance of caution when conducting transactions, especially with untrustworthy parties and unknown individuals. He also discussed the Central Virtual Room which was established based on the directives of the Central Bank of Kuwait in cooperation between local banks and the Ministry of Interior and Ministry of Justice.

Bu Hamad urged customers to verify information, thoroughly read the content of one-time password (OTP) messages regarding transaction amounts and merchant names, and only conduct banking operations through official and reliable websites and applications.

He also emphasized the dangers of engaging with suspicious advertisements on social media or search engines and stressed the importance of never sharing the OTP or card PIN with anyone.

During the interview, Bu Hamad stressed ABK’s keenness to strengthen the efforts made to protect customers and provide advice on an ongoing basis. Furthermore, he pointed out that the Central Virtual Room involves the participation of more than one party to monitor suspicious transactions. It supports in taking immediate action when a customer communicates with the Bank so that it may protect them by taking the necessary action to stop the card and alert hem about any suspicious transactions taking place on their bank accounts.

This initiative aims to efficiently handle customer reports around the clock through clear procedures among all participating entities, ultimately enhancing coordination between local banks and official entities in Kuwait.

The Central Virtual Room aims to enhance coordination between local banks and official bodies, including the Ministry of Interior and the Ministry of Justice, which contributes to providing a safer banking environment for customers. Through it, suspicious accounts are monitored and restricted, and funds are tracked and seized. This is in addition to raising awareness in order to limit electronic fraud operations.

As part of its commitment to customer safety, ABK continuously provides informative content on its social media pages about protecting bank accounts. Customers are encouraged to contact the Bank immediately if they fall victim to fraud or suspect any unauthorized transactions.
