Actress Katherine Heigl sued for alleged $300K in unpaid services

LOS ANGELES, April 24: 'Grey's Anatomy' star Katherine Heigl and her mother, Nancy Heigl, are embroiled in a legal battle with Alyssa Faith Deetman, founder of The Pitty Committee, over alleged unpaid expenses totaling nearly $350,000. Deetman partnered with the Heigls’ non-profit, The Jason Debus Heigl Foundation, in 2023 and claims the foundation failed to reimburse costs related to veterinary care and dog training.

Deetman alleges the Heigls' failure to pay harmed her rescue’s reputation and finances. A now-filed lawsuit states she “incurred approximately $349,691.23 in unreimbursed expenses” and experienced emotional distress, claiming the foundation exploited smaller rescues “to generate positive public relations.”

Katherine and Nancy Heigl deny the allegations, saying they’ve invested over $8 million in the foundation and accuse Deetman of misusing donated funds and asking for money beyond their agreement, which expired in January 2024. Just days before Deetman's suit, the Heigls countersued for defamation and breach of contract, claiming she launched a “smear campaign” and refused to retract “false and defamatory” statements.

“Instead of expressing gratitude,” their suit alleges, “she sought to exploit Katherine’s celebrity status.”

The legal dispute continues as both sides present conflicting accounts. Meanwhile, Heigl recently reflected on past career decisions, describing her Grey’s Anatomy exit as driven by “insanity” and panic, adding she regrets not taking more time to consider her options.
