KUWAIT CITY, Jan 30: In a significant breakthrough, detectives from Hawalli have successfully closed a case involving the theft of food products from a store located at a gas station, leveraging advanced biometric fingerprint technology and available intelligence. A security source confirmed that the use of biometric technology in this theft case marks a pivotal step forward, which will be expanded in the future to apprehend individuals involved in criminal activities. The source emphasized the high efficiency of the technology, noting that it accurately identified the suspect and led to his arrest at his residence. When confronted with irrefutable evidence, the accused admitted to the theft, expressing astonishment at the speed of his arrest.

The case initially filed against an unknown individual, was transformed into a case against a known suspect thanks to the efforts of Hawalli detectives. According to a security source, the legal representative of a commercial store chain reported that one of their outlets, located at a gas station on Arabian Gulf Street near Maidan Hawalli, had been targeted by an unidentified individual. The suspect, who was accompanied by a child, allegedly stole various food products worth 82,910 Kuwaiti dinars by placing the items in the child’s bag. The legal representative clarified that no accusations were being made against the child, emphasizing that the blame lay solely on the man accompanying the child. The incident reportedly occurred on October 12, 2024, at 6:41 PM.

Following the registration of the case, the investigation was handed over to the detectives. Upon examining the suspect’s vehicle, authorities discovered that it was already under security surveillance in connection with a breach of trust case at the Jleeb police station. Due to challenges in locating the vehicle’s owner, detectives reviewed surveillance footage and utilized advanced biometric fingerprint technology to identify the suspect. The system matched the suspect’s identity to a Kuwaiti citizen with a criminal record involving theft and drug-related offenses.

Further inquiries through the Ministry of Interior’s database revealed that the suspect resided in the Dhahr area. A specialized team from the detectives unit swiftly moved to arrest him and seized the wanted vehicle. During interrogation, the suspect confessed to the theft, acknowledging that he was the individual seen in the surveillance footage. He also admitted to committing similar crimes across various governorates in Kuwait, which are currently being documented and investigated.

The successful resolution of this case underscores the growing importance of biometric technology in modern law enforcement.
