Ahmadi Refinery sets record for highest rate in risk management and operational safety

KUWAIT CITY, Oct 10: Mina Al-Ahmadi Refinery, a subsidiary of the Kuwait National Petroleum Company, has set a new benchmark in risk management and operational safety by attaining a record score of 98.4 points in a recent field survey conducted by several international insurance firms. This score marks the highest rating the refinery has achieved in its history.

Ghanem Al-Otaibi, Deputy CEO for Projects and Official Spokesperson of the National Petroleum Company announced this milestone on Thursday in a statement to the Kuwait News Agency. The survey was carried out by reputable international insurance companies, including Marsh, the American International Group, Liberty, and Score.

Al-Otaibi explained that this evaluation is part of the annual review process for all Kuwaiti oil sector facilities, aimed at assessing their compliance with international safety standards and their readiness to manage potential risks.

Highlighting the importance of this achievement, Al-Otaibi pointed out that recent expansions at the Mina Al-Ahmadi Refinery, which include the addition of environmental fuel units and a fifth gas line, have increased the complexity of operations and the diversity of assets. He stated that this high rating positions the refinery among the best oil refineries in the world.

According to Al-Otaibi, the refinery's impressive performance reflects the National Petroleum Company’s commitment to effective risk management strategies and the protection of both personnel and assets.

He also noted that the refinery's teams have received commendations from inspection experts for their efficiency in adhering to best practices and international standards. Recognition was given for their continuous innovation in work processes, investment in health, safety, and environmental measures, as well as the implementation of comprehensive training programs for employees. Additionally, the teams were praised for their precise execution of maintenance plans and responsiveness to previous inspection recommendations.

In conclusion, Al-Otaibi stated that this achievement is a result of the collective efforts of all refinery employees and the guidance of senior management. He expressed pride in this accomplishment, which enhances the National Petroleum Company’s reputation as a leader committed to the highest standards of safety and quality in its operations.
