Air India And IndiGo flights disrupted by bomb threats

MUMBAI, India, Oct 14: An unusual morning unfolded on October 14 for flights departing from Mumbai as bomb threats led to significant disruptions. An Air India flight en route to New York was diverted to New Delhi, while two IndiGo flights scheduled to fly to Muscat and Jeddah were halted from taking off.

The Air India flight, designated AI119, was traveling from Mumbai to John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK) in New York when it was redirected to Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGI) in Delhi due to a bomb threat. Upon arrival, the aircraft was taken to an isolated bay for mandatory security checks, following standard operating procedures.

An Air India spokesperson confirmed that all passengers were safely disembarked in Delhi and transferred to the airport terminal. "Flight AI119 from Mumbai to JFK on October 14 was diverted to Delhi following a security alert, based on instructions from the government's security regulatory committee. Air India is working to minimize any inconvenience and prioritizes the safety and security of its passengers and crew," the spokesperson stated.

As Delhi Police and airport authorities conducted thorough security checks, the aircraft remained stationed at IGI Airport.

In addition to the Air India flight, two IndiGo flights departing from Mumbai also received bomb threats. The flight to Muscat (6E 1275) and the one to Jeddah (6E 56) were both moved to isolated bays for security assessments. After a seven-hour delay, the Mumbai-Muscat flight finally took off, while the Jeddah flight is expected to commence its journey shortly.
