KUWAIT CITY, Feb 2: Kuwait national handball team player and Salwa Al-Sabah Club star Aisha Al-Saad has made history as the first Kuwaiti female handball player to compete professionally abroad. She played a pivotal role in leading Omani club Masirah to victory in the second edition of the Omani Women's Sports Games, held last October, where they secured the handball title after defeating Salalah Club in the final.
Al-Saad’s groundbreaking achievement marks a significant milestone for Kuwaiti women’s handball, potentially paving the way for more players to pursue professional careers overseas.
Her journey in handball began in 2014 with Salwa Al-Sabah Club’s youth team. She later made her debut with Kuwait’s national women’s team in 2019, showcasing impressive performances that earned her a spot in the Gulf Women’s Games in Kuwait. She also represented Kuwait at the 2023 West Asian Championship in Jordan, where she was named the tournament’s best left-back.
Speaking to Al-Seyassah, Al-Saad shared that playing professionally had been a long-standing goal, and when the right opportunity arose, she seized it by joining Masirah in Oman.
“I am delighted with this experience, which has given me greater confidence and determination to pursue professionalism. It will undoubtedly enhance my performance when representing Kuwait in international competitions,” Al-Saad said.
She further expressed her openness to future professional opportunities, stating, “If another opportunity arises and I receive approval from Salwa Al-Sabah Club, I have no objection to taking on a new challenge.” She also wished success for her fellow Kuwaiti players and hoped to see more of them competing professionally on the international stage.
