KUWAIT CITY, Nov 2: Dr. Ahmad Al-Shatti, head of the Cardiac Catheterization Unit at Al-Dabous Center at Al-Adan Hospital, announced that the hospital has successfully performed approximately 10 complex procedures to treat pulmonary embolism, with some conducted using the ECMO device. He noted that these cases had no alternative treatment options other than catheterization.

In a press statement on Saturday, Dr. Al-Shatti highlighted that the latest treatment techniques were applied in these operations based on the specifics of each case, all of which were referred to Al-Dabous Center from various hospitals across the country. He emphasized the recent inauguration of a rapid intervention unit at Al-Adan Hospital (Al-Dabous Heart Center), which involved the participation of Dr. Riyadh Al-Tarzi, head of the Cardiac Surgery Department, and Dr. Mohammad Shamsah, head of the Intensive Care Unit at Farwaniya Hospital. He described this unit as a significant advancement in the treatment of pulmonary embolism cases.

Dr. Al-Shatti explained that traditional treatment typically involves administering clot-dissolving medications. However, if a patient faces an increased risk of bleeding, the treatment can be safely performed within this unit under local anesthesia, utilizing the catheterization laboratories at Al-Dabous Heart Center. This procedure employs the latest global systems and techniques for effectively removing pulmonary embolisms.

He also stated that the modern technologies provided by the Ministry of Health at Al-Adan Hospital and Al-Dabous Center for treating pulmonary embolism are comparable to those found in developed countries. Dr. Al-Shatti reiterated the hospital administration's commitment to keeping abreast of the latest global medical technologies to enhance services for citizens and improve the capabilities of medical staff.

He expressed gratitude to the Minister of Health, Dr. Ahmed Al-Awadhi, and the Undersecretary of the Ministry, Dr. Abdulrahman Al-Mutairi, for their ongoing support and efforts to upgrade the hospital with the latest technologies and modern systems, ensuring alignment with advancements in healthcare worldwide.
