RIYADH, Feb 5: Salem Al-Dawsari, the captain of Al-Hilal, has surpassed Frenchman Bafétimbi Gomis to become the club's third all-time leading scorer across all competitions. Al-Dawsari achieved this milestone by netting two goals in 8 minutes, leading Al-Hilal to a 4-1 victory over Iran's Persepolis in the seventh round of the Asian Elite League.
His first goal came in the 38th minute, courtesy of a precise pass from Malcom, which Al-Dawsari converted with a decisive shot. He added his second in stoppage time (45+1 minute) with a powerful strike from outside the penalty area.
These goals bring Al-Dawsari's tally to 117, surpassing Gomis's 116 goals. The top two spots in Al-Hilal's scoring history are held by Sami Al-Jaber with 175 goals and Yasser Al-Qahtani with 132 goals.
In the same match, defender Ali Al-Bulaihi faced challenges after conceding a penalty shortly after being substituted in the 81st minute, leading to Persepolis's sole goal. Al-Bulaihi also encountered boos from the crowd upon entering the field, marking a difficult period in his tenure with Al-Hilal.
With this win, Al-Hilal maintains its lead in the West Asia group, tied at 19 points with Al Ahli Jeddah but ahead on goal difference. Al Nassr trails by three points, with all three teams having secured spots in the round of 16.
