PARIS, July 27: Kuwaiti rowing champion Suad Al-Faqaan finished fourth in the preliminary qualifiers for the Women's race at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games yesterday. With this result, Al-Faqaan will have another chance to advance to the next round during the requalification round for athletes who placed fourth to sixth in the individual qualifiers, scheduled for today.

Al-Faqaan completed the qualifiers with a time of 8:16.32 minutes. The race was led by American Kara Kohler, who finished in 7:32.46 minutes. Austrian Magdalena Loebing secured second place with a time of 7:39.39 minutes, while Serbian Jovana Arsek came in third with a time of 7:48.29 minutes. The rowing competitions took place at the Vaires-sur-Marne course in the Seine-et-Marne region of Ile-de-France.

Suad Al-Faqaan's participation in marine sports marks the first time a Kuwaiti female athlete has competed in this type of event at the Olympic Games.

Kuwait's fencer Yusuf Al-Shamlan was defeated 6-15 in the 32nd round at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games on Saturday, exiting the competition early.

In a press release, Hamad Al-Awadhi, Secretary of the Kuwait Fencing Association, expressed pride in Al-Shamlan, who is ranked 24th globally. He noted that Al-Shamlan delivered a commendable performance against his German opponent, Matyas Szabo.

Al-Awadhi highlighted that Al-Shamlan worked hard to qualify for the Olympic Games and gained valuable experience from participating in the event. Al-Shamlan is the first Kuwaiti fencer to compete in the Olympic Games.
