Al-Ittihad stays top of Saudi League preps for crucial clash with Al-Hilal

JEDDAH, Feb 16,: Saudi Arabia’s Al-Ittihad defeated Al-Wehda 4-1 on Saturday in the 20th round of the Saudi Roshen Professional Football League. Al-Ittihad opened the scoring in the 35th minute of the match, held at King Abdulaziz Sports City Stadium in Makkah, through Muhannad Al-Shanqeeti, while Al-Wehda’s equalizer came from Moroccan Jawad El Yamiq in the 42nd minute. Before the end of the first half, French star Karim Benzema gave Al-Ittihad the lead by scoring a goal in the 45th minute. In the second half, Dutch star Steven Bergwijn strengthened his team’s lead with a third goal in the 60th minute, while Algerian Houssem Aouar concluded his team’s goals with a fourth goal in the fifth minute of stoppage time. With this result, Al-Ittihad continues to lead the league with 52 points, four points ahead of its pursuer, Al-Hilal, which will meet Al-Ittihad in the next round scheduled for next Saturday. In other matches of the same round, Al- Taawoun defeated Al-Khaleej 1-0 in the match held at Prince Mohammed bin Fahd Stadium in Dammam, while Al-Fayha defeated Al-Raed 2-0 in the match held at King Abdullah Sports City Stadium in Buraidah. (KUNA)
