KUWAIT CITY, March 1: Qadsiya Club secured the top position in the Kuwait Basketball League standings, defeating Kuwait Club 87-83 in a postponed match from the first division. This win propelled Qadsiya to 16 points, maintaining an undefeated record of 8 wins, while Kuwait Club dropped to second place with 15 points after suffering its first loss of the season.
In another match, Al-Arabi triumphed over Al-Yarmouk with a dominant 99-65 scoreline in the first round of the second division. The standings now show Kazma in third place with 13 points, followed closely by Al-Nasr in fourth and Al-Arabi in fifth. Al-Qurain sits in sixth place with 12 points, while Al-Sulaibikhat is seventh with 11 points. Yarmouk occupies eighth place with 10 points, and Al-Tadamon rounds out the bottom in ninth with 8 points.
The first round of the second division will conclude today with two key matches: Kazma vs Al-Sulaibikhat at 8:45 pm and Al-Nasr vs Al-Qurain at 11:00 pm. Both games will be held at the Basketball Federation Hall in Sheikh Saad Al-Abdullah Complex.
With this victory, Al-Qadsiya handed Kuwait Club its fourth consecutive defeat, further deepening its struggles. Kuwait Club had previously lost to Shabab Al-Ahli from the Emirates in the last round of Group Two in the West Asia Super League Championship. Following that, it faced Al-Ittihad of Saudi Arabia in the play-off and suffered two consecutive losses.
The tournament is structured in a two-division league system, with the top four teams qualifying for the semi-finals. In the semi-finals, the first-place team will face the fourth-place team, and the second-place team will meet the third-place team in a best-of-three "play-off" format, with the winner of two matches advancing to the final.
