KUWAIT CITY, Feb 12: The Sheikh Jaber Al-Ahmad Cultural Center was filled with the spirit of cultural celebration as the "Al-Qurain Cultural Festival 29" kicked off on Sunday evening. The festival's inauguration coincided with the 50th anniversary of the National Council for Culture, Arts, and Letters.
Under the patronage of His Highness the Prime Minister Sheikh Dr. Muhammad Al-Sabah, represented by Minister of Information and Culture Abdul Rahman Al-Mutairi, distinguished guests including ambassadors, writers, and artists gathered to mark the occasion.
During the event, the pioneers of the National Council for Culture, Arts, and Letters were honored, along with recipients of the State Appreciation Awards. Notable figures such as poet Abdul Rahman Al-Najjar, linguistic scholar Dr. Nouria Al-Roumi, and artist Muhammad Jaber Al-Aidarousi were among those recognized.
Minister Al-Mutairi delivered a speech highlighting the government's commitment to promoting culture and the arts in Kuwait, echoing the vision of His Highness Amir Sheikh Mishal Al-Ahmad and His Highness the Prime Minister. He emphasized the significance of the National Council's role in fostering intellectual production and strengthening cultural ties.
The festival's opening ceremony featured captivating performances, including a musical theatrical presentation titled "Echo of Poets" led by Dr. Amer Jaafar and the National Orchestra of Uzbekistan. The program showcased Kuwait's rich cultural heritage through music, poetry, and visual arts, drawing applause from the audience.
In a show of solidarity with Gaza, a special piece entitled "The Flood" was performed, followed by a poignant rendition of "And My Eyes Burned" by poet Abdul Latif Al-Bannai. The evening culminated with a heartfelt rendition of the Kuwaiti national anthem, symbolizing unity and pride.
The "Al-Qurain Cultural Festival 29" promises to be a vibrant celebration of Kuwaiti culture and creativity, with a diverse lineup of events and activities planned to enrich the cultural landscape of the country.
