KUWAIT CITY, Jan 25: The Sadu Crafts Association announced on Friday the extension of its "Together We Weave Stories" exhibition, which accompanies the "Sof" spinning factory, allowing visitors to attend until the end of February.
Sheikha Bibi Al-Duaij Al-Sabah, Chairperson of the association's board of directors, told Kuwait News Agency (KUNA) that the decision to extend the exhibition’s run was in response to the strong turnout from visitors eager to learn about this pioneering achievement. She also noted that the factory’s products are available for purchase at the Sadu House shop and on its dedicated website.
Sheikha Bibi explained that the exhibition highlights the use of wool in Bedouin life and the traditional methods of processing it. It also presents the results of scientific studies that helped refine wool products, ultimately leading to the creation of the highest-quality wool. She emphasized that the "Sof" factory is a significant achievement and a pioneering step towards supporting the local craft industry while promoting sustainability in national projects.
She further elaborated that the project’s concept began ten years ago with a study conducted by the Kuwait Institute for Scientific Research, supported by the Kuwait Foundation for the Advancement of Sciences. This was followed by a feasibility study to ensure the product's competitiveness in both local and Gulf markets. Thanks to the guidance and expertise provided by the Foundation, it was confirmed that sustainable energy technologies would be utilized at the "Sof" factory, aligning with the country’s vision to promote environmentally friendly practices.
Sheikha Bibi highlighted that the project contributes to the optimal use of natural wool, which boosts the local economy and supports the development of traditional crafts. The factory also serves as a platform for fostering industrial innovation and preserving cultural heritage. She stressed the importance of national partnerships in achieving sustainable development goals.
She described the project as an inspiring example of cooperation between various national institutions and a crucial step toward empowering industries in Kuwait and the Gulf, all while preserving heritage and enhancing sustainability.
Sheikha Bibi also expressed her gratitude to all those who supported and sponsored the project, which is the result of a strategic partnership between the Kuwait Foundation for the Advancement of Sciences, the Sadu Crafts Association, and the Livestock Company. The initiative aims to develop wool-related industries and create added value from this natural resource.
The "Sof" factory was officially opened last Monday under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Ahmed Abdullah Al-Ahmed Al-Sabah, the Prime Minister. It is the first factory in the Arabian Gulf region to specialize in spinning the wool of the Naimi sheep, considered one of the finest types of natural wool.
