Ambassador praises Kuwait-Britain relations & leadership cooperation

KUWAIT CITY, Aug 27: British Ambassador to Kuwait Belinda Lewis has confirmed the deep-rooted relations between her country and Kuwait; highlighting the vital role and contribution of the political leadership in strengthening the mechanisms of joint work between the two countries, reports Al- Rai daily. In a statement to Al-Akhbar Channel, Lewis stressed that “the role played by the Kuwaiti leadership is indeed essential in the bilateral relationship and the strong ties we enjoy today. The royal and ruling families enjoy a very close personal friendship.”

She also touched on the mutual visits, stating “we have witnessed eight visits made by King Charles to Kuwait and we hope to see more in the future. His Highness the Amir of Kuwait Sheikh Mishaal Al- Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah visited us four times during the past two years. His Highness met with King Charles on three of those occasions, then His Highness made another visit that focused on investment and trade. He met with our prime minister at the time.” She added “These relations are very strong. We have very good working relations with the Kuwaiti Ministry of Foreign Affairs and many other ministries. British ministers talk to their Kuwaiti counterparts all the time. These ties are very useful and very strong.”

Meanwhile, Kuwaiti-British relations researcher Issa Dashti emphasized the historical importance of Sheikh Mubarak Kiosk, which is considered one of the vital historical stations on the path of relations between the two countries. Dashti pointed out in a statement to Al-Akhbar Channel that the kiosk carries historical stories, as it went through many stages and uses. “It was the headquarters of the British mail for 10 years,” he revealed. Talking about the history of mail in Kuwait and its postal cooperation with Britain; Dashti stated that “the post office in Kuwait was officially opened on Jan 21, 1915. It was located in the British residential headquarters, which is currently the Dickson House Cultural Center.”

Meanwhile, The British Ambassador to Kuwait, HE Belinda Lewis will be attending a special event for the Alumni of UK Universities, hosted by @ uknuks under the patronage of HE Sheikh Mubarak Abdullah Al Mubarak Al Sabah. The event will take place on September 14, 2024, at the Grand Hyatt Hotel, 360 Mall.
