Amiri Pardon Committee reviews files of 3,000 prisoners for eligibility
His Highness the Amir Sheikh Meshal Al-Ahmad

KUWAIT CITY, Dec 10: The Amiri Pardon Committee held its first meeting yesterday, attended by representatives from the Amiri Diwan, the Public Prosecution, the Criminal Enforcement Prosecution, and the Ministry of Interior, represented by the General Administration of Correctional Institutions. According to sources, the committee decided to review the files of 3,000 prisoners with final sentences and assess their eligibility for pardon based on specific criteria.

The committee instructed the Correctional Institutions, which are responsible for preparing the files of the prisoners under review, to exclude cases related to state security, indecent assault, personal crimes with no waiver, as well as cases involving contempt of religions, sectarian strife, and attacks on the Amir.

Prisoners whose files meet the criteria may benefit from immediate release, sentence reductions, pardons for fines imposed by court rulings, or the cancellation of judicial deportation orders.

Additionally, sources revealed that the Public Prosecution decided to release 11 male and female prisoners from the central prison, applying the electronic bracelet system to them after their files were reviewed by the Correctional Institutions.

In another development, the Ministry of Interior has signed a contract for the renovation, rehabilitation, and construction of new wards in both the central and public prisons to address overcrowding. The construction work is scheduled to begin early next year.
