KUWAIT CITY, Feb 16: Minister of Health Dr. Ahmad Al-Awadhi highlighted significant advancements in the field of anesthesia, particularly in handling complex cases, at the opening of the 11th Anesthesia Conference on Saturday. With international participation, the event underscored the remarkable progress made in anesthesia, which has allowed anesthesia departments to perform increasingly complex surgeries.
In his speech, Dr. Al-Awadhi noted that these developments have led to a noticeable decrease in post-surgery complications, significantly enhancing the quality of medical services provided to patients. He also pointed out that these advancements contributed to a record-breaking number of kidney transplants performed at Jaber Al-Ahmad Hospital. Last year, 149 kidney transplants were successfully carried out, along with the expansion of pain treatment clinics.
Dr. Al-Awadhi emphasized the Ministry of Health’s continuous support for the field of anesthesia, both morally and financially, recognizing it as a vital and rare specialty in Kuwait. He mentioned the signing of a memorandum of cooperation with the Public Authority for Applied Education and Training, which led to the launch of an anesthesia technician specialization program. This initiative aims to prepare qualified national professionals in the field, ensuring the growth of local expertise in this critical area.
The Minister further explained that the program will result in the graduation of skilled national cadres who will contribute to the ministry’s work, enhancing the delivery of integrated medical services to citizens. He also highlighted the implementation of modern work policies through the Ministerial Policies Committee and the Departments Council, designed to unify work processes and improve medical services, particularly for cancer patients, through innovative non-surgical interventions.
Dr. Al-Awadhi added that the developments in the sector have not been limited to medical services alone. There has also been a focus on investing in human resources through workshops and collaborations with international organizations to exchange expertise and promote scientific research. The entry of new hospitals into the health system has further increased the number of operating rooms, helping to reduce patient waiting times.
Dr. Hassan Behbehani, head of the organizing committee for the conference, also spoke at the event, emphasizing the importance of the conference in improving the skills of Kuwait's medical staff. He noted that the conference, which features anesthesia specialists from prestigious international medical centers, offers a unique opportunity to discuss the latest developments in the field.
Dr. Behbehani outlined key topics being covered at the conference, including anesthesia for pregnant women, in line with the opening of the new maternity hospital with state-of-the-art facilities. Other important topics include pain treatment for children, peripheral anesthesia, and the role of artificial intelligence in anesthesia.
The conference, which brings together leading experts, aims to contribute to the ongoing improvement of healthcare services in Kuwait, ensuring safe and high-quality care for both citizens and residents.
