15 & 4 years jail upheld for two men in arson case after appeal

KUWAIT CITY, Dec 16: The Court of Appeal, led by Counselor Hani Al-Hamdan, upheld the verdict of the lower court which had found two men guilty of setting fire to the house of Counselor Sultan Buresli, as well as possessing drugs and a firearm, reports Al-Seyassah daily. One defendant was sentenced to 15 years in prison, while the other received a 4-year sentence. The court also upheld the acquittal of Sheikh Hamad Jaber Al-Mubarak and another individual.

The defendants were arrested by the Criminal Security Sector, of the Capital Investigations Department and the Financial Crimes Combating Department, at a barn in Kabd. The accused had intentionally set fire to one of Counselor Buresli’s vehicles and his house. The investigations revealed that the defendants, who are believed to be bedoun, reportedly are criminals and have a history of drug addiction. The motorcycle they used to commit the crime has been impounded by the authorities. It has been reported to avoid detection, they had changed the color of the motorcycle from red to black.
