CAIRO, Egypt, Oct 15: The 69th meeting of the Scientific Technical Committee of the Arab Council for Housing and Construction commenced on Sunday at the headquarters of the Arab League. Senior officials and representatives from housing ministries were in attendance for this significant event.

Shahira Wahbi, Chief of the Department of Environment, Housing, Water Resources, and Sustainable Development at the Arab League, delivered the opening speech. She announced that the committee's discussions, spanning three days, would primarily focus on the preparation of the draft agenda for the upcoming 88th meeting of the Executive Office of the Arab Council for Housing and Construction, scheduled for the following Wednesday.

The agenda encompasses 22 crucial items, many of which pertain to the countries that will host the Arab Housing Conference. Egypt had the privilege of hosting the conference in 2023, and Algeria is set to host it in 2024, followed by Palestine in 2026 and Oman in 2028, as outlined by Wahbi. In this context, she revealed that Iraq has generously offered assistance to Palestine in its preparations for hosting the conference in 2026.

The committee also dedicated time to discuss the celebration of Arab Housing Day and the prestigious Arab Council for Housing and Construction's award. Additionally, they closely monitored the progress of the global 2030 sustainable development plan and the executive plan for the Arab Strategy for Housing and Sustainable Urban Development 2030. The committee also emphasized the importance of providing technical support to Palestine to achieve sustainable housing for its citizens and extending support to Yemen and Somalia in their reconstruction efforts.
