KUWAIT CITY, June 30: The Court of Cassation acquitted artiste Zahra Arafat and broadcaster Saleh Al-Rashed of misusing their mobile phones by uploading a video clip on social media, thereby, overturning the ruling of the First Instance and Appeals courts that had earlier imposed KD 4,000 fine on the accused, reports Al-Seyassah daily.

Lawyer for the defendants, Attorney Maryam Al-Bahar, argued that her clients did not commit any crime, pointing out the plaintiff interpreted the contents of the clip in a way that is far from reality. Al-Bahr asserted her clients had no criminal intent in uploading the video clip. She then presented a portfolio of documents and video clips of big stars in Kuwait and the Gulf, similar to the video clip in question. In a statement after the Court of Cassation issued its ruling, Al-Bahr praised the court’s fairness in dealing with her clients by acquitting them, instead of fining them.
