KUWAIT CITY, Sept 20: The Kuwaiti sports delegation departed on Wednesday for the People’s Republic of China in preparation for their participation in the 19th Asian Games, scheduled to take place from September 23 to October 8 in the city of Hangzhou. Fatima Hayat, the chief of Kuwait’s delegation and a member of the Kuwait Olympic Committee, stated that Kuwait is sending a contingent of 141 male and female athletes who will compete in 25 individual and team sports. She emphasized that they are well-prepared and equipped to take part in this prestigious event.

The delegation includes Faisal Al- Yateem, Deputy Director General of the Public Authority for Sport; Ali Al-Marri, Assistant Secretary of the Kuwait Olympic Committee; Sheikh Jaber Thamer Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah, a member of the Board of Directors of the Olympic Committee; Ghazi Al-Jraiwy, committee member; and Hamad Al-Adhan, the head of the President of the Kuwait Olympic Committee’s office. Kuwait has a storied history of participation in the Asian Games since 1982, having garnered a total of 76 medals. Kuwaiti athletes have clinched 24 gold medals, 22 silver medals and 30 bronze medals. The 13th Asian Games in Bangkok marked a particularly successful chapter in Kuwait’s participation, with a tally of 14 medals. (KUNA)
