BUDAPEST, Aug 16: At least 12 people were killed and 10 others injured after a Polish tourist bus overturned on a motorway in northeastern Hungary early Sunday, local media reported.
The accident occurred at around 1 a.m. local time near the Mezokeresztes exit on the M3 motorway, in the direction of Nyiregyhaza, according to Hungarian news outlet Blikk.
The Polish-registered bus was carrying 57 passengers and two drivers when it overturned.
Citing disaster management authorities, Blikk reported that emergency crews had rescued 35 people from the vehicle by 3 a.m., while several passengers remained trapped beneath the overturned bus.
Rescue teams were dispatched to the scene, and a separate bus was brought in to provide shelter for passengers affected by the crash.
The motorway section was closed during rescue operations and an investigation into the accident. Traffic was diverted at Mezokeresztes.
Poland also sent a relief flight to assist passengers affected by the accident, according to the report.
Authorities are investigating the cause of the crash.
