Attendance issues spark ‘verification’

KUWAIT CITY, Oct 2: Given repeated errors in the attendance recording devices approved by the Ministry of Education, several school administrations have asked teachers for their attendance records from the Civil Service Commission (CSC) website to compare them with the signature and manual attendance records, say sources from the educational sector.

Sources explained that the devices sometimes fail to record the teachers’ attendance, which leads to salary deductions based on unjustified absences despite their presence at the workplace Sources said schools have taken additional measures to confirm the adoption of the attendance devices, which correctly record the punching in and out of teachers, such as placing manual records to protect the rights of the teachers if the devices fail to record their attendance.

Sources revealed the schools’ request for teachers to extract attendance records from the CSC website and compare them with the manual attendance data in the schools’ internal system aims to ensure that the attendance and short leave data are recorded correctly and to avoid making mistakes that could lead to salary deductions.

Sources pointed out that the attendance devices installed in many schools experience technical faults; so some teachers’ fingerprints are not recorded when they enter or leave the workplace or ask for time off. In some cases, a malfunction occurs in registering early departure from the workplace, which leaves a negative impact on their job files, as they are considered absent without justification, sources clarified. Sources affirmed the step taken by the school administrations aims to first verify the teachers’ attendance, and then submit any objections or complaints if there are contradictions or errors in the records.
