KUWAIT CITY, Oct 6: Attorney Nour Al-Mutairi has filed a complaint with both the Public Prosecution and the Ministry of Interior's Department of Control and Inspection regarding the actions of officers from the Investigation Department. The officers from the Juvenile Investigation Department were responding to an incident where the mother, her son, and her sister's son were attacked by other individuals. However, during the course of their investigations, these officers allegedly engaged in acts of cruelty, unlawfully detained the mother, publicly insulted her, and subjected a child to physical abuse.
The victims were handcuffed with restraints and were subjected to blows to their faces and stomachs. Additionally, the assailants resorted to kicking the victims' legs and using a wooden stick, resulting in a broken leg for both her son and the sister's son. Al-Mutairi also noted that the perpetrators insulted the children and their mother.
It is worth noting that Kuwait has a history of investigating complaints against police and taking disciplinary action when the government determines it is warranted. However, there have been reports of authorities prosecuting citizens using penal code provisions and the cybercrime law that criminalize speech deemed insulting to religion or the Amir, or peaceful dissent generally. In some cases, activists have been arrested and charged with "insulting the Amir" and "broadcasting false news".
