KUWAIT CITY, November 5: The Australian University (AU) made a significant impact at the 7th International Maintenance, Reliability, and Asset Management Conference and Exhibition (MAINTCON), which took place at Exhibition World Bahrain, under the theme of "Building Resilience in Assets for a Sustainable Tomorrow". MAINTCON has steadily grown to become the world's largest gathering of professionals in maintenance, reliability, and asset management.
The University actively participated in various activities during the conference, including showcasing innovative projects, presenting technical papers, and chairing technical sessions. The Innovation Corner, a prominent feature of MAINTCON, provided a platform for innovators from regional oil and gas companies, service providers, and universities to display their groundbreaking work.
During the exhibition’s physical evaluation, which involved competing against leading innovations from both international and GCC universities and industries, Dr. Mortadha Al Saba’s, Associate Professor and Head of Petroleum Engineering at AU, his project was selected as one of the winners, and this prestigious award was shared with three other winners from major GCC industries.
Dr. Mortadha Al Saba’s recognition highlights the university's commitment to advancing innovative solutions in the oil and gas industry, as well as its growing influence in promoting sustainability through engineering advancements.
From her end, Dr. Suad Al Radhwan, Assistant Professor in the Petroleum Engineering Department at AU and Chairperson of the Innovation Committee at the 7th MAINTCON, emphasized the importance of the Innovation Corner. She described it as a unique opportunity for innovators to share their talents with regional industry leaders and a prestigious recognition that encourages continued investment in inventions.
During the event also, AU showcased 2 standout projects in the Innovation Corner. The first, led by Dr. Adel Younis from the Mechanical Engineering Department, focused on the “Development of Floating Offshore Wind Turbines and their Supporting Structures.” The second project, spearheaded by Dr. Mortadha Al Saba from the Petroleum Engineering Department, with Eng. Asama Hussain as Co-Innovator, presented a “Smart Sustainable Drilling Fluid Additives Inventory Management System.”
