KUWAIT CITY, May 29: Al-Salmi Customs officials successfully intercepted a smuggling attempt involving approximately 322 cartons of banned chewing tobacco. The contraband was discovered on a truck entering Kuwait through the Salmi Customs Port.

The operation commenced following a tip-off received by Yousef Al-Kandari, Deputy Director General for Customs Ports Affairs. Acting on this information, the Customs Research and Investigation Department closely monitored and tracked the incoming shipment. During a thorough inspection, officials uncovered the hidden cargo of prohibited chewing tobacco, which weighed approximately 6,043.610 kilograms—contradicting the truck's official declaration that the shipment contained tobacco and its derivatives.

The confiscated tobacco, banned under customs laws as per the Ministries of Commerce and Health directives, was handed over to the competent authorities. The necessary customs procedures were executed to manage the violation.

The General Administration of Customs issued a stern warning to anyone attempting to smuggle narcotic substances and prohibited goods into the country. Officials emphasized that violators would face stringent legal accountability and customs actions.
