KUWAIT CITY, Aug 18: Amid ongoing announcements from the Ministry of Electricity and Water about planned power outages in certain areas, the Fire Force has advised the public to avoid using electric elevators during these periods. They urged people to remain calm if an elevator stops or a power outage occurs, to refrain from attempting to open the elevator door, and to sit on the floor to alleviate tension while calling the emergency number 112.

The Ministry of Electricity, Water, and Renewable Energy (MEW) announced on Sunday that power in several residential areas would be cut off "within an hour" to stabilize the country's power grid. The affected areas include Jleeb Al-Shuyoukh, Hawally, Mubarak Al-Kabeer, Sabah Al-Ahmad, Al-Omariya, Farwaniya, old Jahra, Abu Fatira, Abdullah Al-Mubarak, West Abdullah Al-Mubarak, Jaber Al-Ahmad, South Jahra, Fahad Al-Ahmad, Hadiya, Salmiya, East Hawally, Khaitan, and Funaitis.

In a press release, the ministry urged the public to conserve electricity during peak hours from 11:00 am to 5:00 pm and to follow the ministry's guidelines. The power outage is due to a fuel supply disruption on Saturday, which led to the shutdown of several electricity-generating units at Subiya and West Doha power stations, as well as desalination plants. MEW stated that further updates would be provided as needed.
