KUWAIT CITY, Aug 6: Bank account theft cases have resurfaced with three new cases registered at Northwest Sulaibikhat Police Station under the title, ‘Bank Document Forgery. It remains unknown whether the victims responded to calls from gangs asking them to update their bank card information or whether their bank balances were stolen under different circumstances.
One of the victims, a female citizen, said she found that her bank account had zero balance after communicating with the bank. She revealed the amount of KD900 was deposited into her account and then withdrawn immediately, along with whatever money she had in the account; indicating she lost KD440.
According to a security source, another citizen was surprised when he received messages from a local bank he is dealing with, as one of the messages stated his balance of about KD330 turned into zero; while one more citizen disclosed that his entire balance of KD335 was stolen.
The source has reiterated his call for citizens and expatriates to refrain from responding to gangs impersonating bank employees and requesting to update their data. He stressed that the Ministry of Interior and any bank neither request customer data nor contact customers by telephone to update their bank cards. He advised everyone to avoid logging into unknown websites or clicking suspicious links, as these links allow gangs to view the entire banking data of customers.
