NEW YORK, Dec 7: Barron Trump played a pivotal role in advising his father, the president-elect, during his campaign, urging him to engage with internet personalities to connect with a younger, broader audience to reclaim the White House, his mother, Melania Trump, revealed.
"He brought in so many young people. He knows his generation because nowadays, the younger generation doesn’t sit in front of TVs anymore," the incoming first lady shared on "Fox & Friends" on Friday. "They’re all on tablets, phones, podcasts, and streaming platforms."
Melania, proud of her 18-year-old son, explained how Barron, who stands at 6-foot-9, was “very vocal” in giving advice to his father, recognizing the importance of reaching the right audience. She praised his efforts, noting how Barron understood exactly who his father needed to engage with to achieve success.
Donald Trump followed his son's advice, making several appearances on prominent podcasts. One of his most notable appearances was on "The Joe Rogan Experience," where he sat down for an almost three-hour interview with Rogan just days before defeating Vice President Kamala Harris. The interview, which garnered more than 52 million views on YouTube alone, saw 20 million of those views in the first 20 hours.
Barron’s recommendation to appear on other podcasts like “This Past Weekend with Theo Von,” “Flagrant” with Andrew Schulz, the “PBD Podcast” with Patrick Bet-David, and “Impaulsive” with Logan Paul brought in an additional 30 million views.
"Every single recommendation he’s had has turned out to be absolute ratings gold that’s broken the internet," said senior Trump adviser Jason Miller in October. "When you look at the impact of podcasts or YouTube shows — non-traditional media — part of the thing is you’re meeting voters where they’re at," Miller added during an interview on Politico’s “Playbook Deep Dive” podcast.
In contrast, Kamala Harris dismissed the value of such appearances. Her podcast interview on “Call Her Daddy” failed to even reach 1 million views, and despite being invited, she chose not to appear on Rogan’s podcast in Austin, citing scheduling conflicts. Rogan offered her an open invitation when she was in Texas, but Harris declined. “She had an opportunity to come,” Rogan remarked on his podcast. “You could look at this and say, ‘Oh, you’re being a diva,’ but she had an opportunity when she was in Texas.”
Senior campaign staffers were reportedly swayed by progressive opposition to Harris appearing alongside Rogan, as previously reported by the Financial Times.
John Morgan, a former Democratic donor and founder of the Morgan & Morgan law firm, recently claimed that Barron’s podcast strategy played a crucial role in securing the victory against Harris. "Barron Trump is a lot smarter than everybody in the Harris campaign," Morgan told Fox News, highlighting the vice president’s reluctance to appear on Rogan’s podcast due to concerns from progressive staffers.
While Barron remained largely behind the scenes during the campaign, he remains highly popular among his father’s supporters. "I gave him a shout-out last night, and the place went crazy: Ba-ron, Ba-ron," Donald Trump told UFC president Dana White on election night.
Outside of his political involvement, Barron is currently attending NYU’s Stern School of Business in Manhattan, where he started his freshman year. Melania acknowledged that his college experience is far from typical, with Secret Service detail accompanying him at all times.
“I don’t think it’s possible for him to be a normal student,” Melania said. “His experience at college is very different from any other kid, and I’m very proud of how he’s handling it.” She added that Barron is well aware of his unique position. "He’s very strong, and he knows that he’s in a different position than other children," she said. "I just say make your dreams come true. This is your role. This is your life. And make sure that you listen to yourself."
