Bhavans Kuwait hosts thrilling chess showdown for young minds

KUWAIT CITY, Nov 2: Bhavans Kuwait recently hosted the Bhavans Rapid Chess Tournament 2024, showcasing a stunning blend of intellect and strategy that attracted Kuwait’s brightest young chess enthusiasts. Held at the Indian Educational School, this event celebrated mental agility, drawing over 180 participants from more than 20 schools in an exciting competition of wits.


Open to students of all nationalities, the tournament featured three age categories: Under 11, Under 14, and 19. Each round tested patience, foresight, and sharp thinking as participants navigated the chessboard with tactical skill. The top winners were:

Under 11 Category -- 1st Place: Nehan Abdullah (SIS Cambridge Wing); 2nd Place: Patrick Riyan Pinto (ICSK) and 3rd Place: Aagney Shiju (Gulf Indian School)

Under 14 Category -- 1st Place: Mithilesh Ranjithkumar (Gulf Indian School); 2nd Place: Abel Joseph (United Indian School) and 3rd Place: Mohammed Junaid Khan (Smart Indian School)

Under 19 Category -- 1st Place: Mohnish Balamurugan (ICSK); 2nd Place: Nihal Saheer (ILOA) and 3rd Place: Sudhanshu Muluku (American International School)

The Best Young Female Award went to Saanvi Arora from Indian Educational School, Kuwait.

The tournament kicked off with an inspiring ceremony led by Mahesh Iyer, Principal of Smart Indian School, joined by Ms. Anselma Tessy, Senior Vice Principal of Bhavans Kuwait. Chief Guest Anand Victor, Principal of Indian Educational School, praised the young talents and presented trophies, cash prizes, and certificates to the winners.

The event ran flawlessly thanks to seamless management from Chief Arbiter NA Anitha Rajendran, Ali from the Kuwait Chess Federation, and Tournament Director Dr. Murugaiyan Subbarayalu. The Bhavans Physical Education Department ensured smooth arrangements, making the tournament a true celebration of young intellectual strength.

N. K. Ramachandran Menon, Chairman of Bhavans Middle East and tournament sponsor, emphasized his commitment to nurturing young talent. This sentiment was echoed by Ms. Meenakshi Nayyar, Binoy Mathew, and Headmistress Ms. Munneera Mammikutty, who congratulated all participants and organizers.

As the event concluded, players left with participation certificates, renewed camaraderie, and a sense of accomplishment. Refreshments were provided throughout the day, keeping the young chess enthusiasts energized and focused.

The Bhavans Rapid Chess Tournament 2024 was a memorable celebration of sportsmanship, intellectual curiosity, and passion for chess, embodying a spirit of strategic thinking essential both on the chessboard and beyond.
