KUWAIT CITY, July 19: Ministry of Public Works is preparing to create an operation management for Jaber Bridge to be included in the new structure that will soon be approved, especially considering the significance of the project, which has reached 80 percent completion, reports Al-Qabas daily quoting an informed source. He revealed this after a recent meeting of the Planning Committee chaired by Minister of Public Works Engineer Abdulrahman Al-Mutawa in the presence of ministry’s Undersecretary Eng Awatif Al-Ghunaim and assistant undersecretaries. The source explained that discussions during the meeting were on sundry issues, which included prequalification of contractors for new projects in the road and sewage engineering sectors. The recommendations discussed included transfer of the Highway Maintenance Unit from the Maintenance Sector to the Road Engineering Sector. This recommendation could lead to some difficulties such as increased burden on the Road Engineering Sector, which gets about 50 percent of the ministry’s budget with additional new projects. Another issue is that the department is preparing to take delivery of some projects following their completion by the Road Engineering Sector. This makes some officials wonder why the transfer is happening in this particular period.
