Ustad Rashid Khan

NEW DELHI, Jan 9: The renowned music maestro, Ustad Rashid Khan, passed away at the age of 55 after a brave battle with cancer. His final moments were at a hospital in Kolkata. Ustad Rashid Khan, a significant figure in Indian classical music, was the great-grandson of the legendary Ustad Inayat Hussain Khan Sahab, the founder of the Rampur Sahaswan Gharana, and the nephew of Ustad Ghulam Mustafa Khan.

Apart from his substantial contributions to Indian classical music, Ustad Rashid Khan also enchanted Bollywood with soulful compositions like 'Aaoge Jab Tum O Saajana' from the movie 'Jab We Met' and 'Allah Hi Reham' in 'My Name is Khan.' Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee expressed her deep sorrow, stating that Ustad Rashid Khan, a maestro in Indian classical music, had made Bengal his home and received the highest civilian award Banga Bibhushan and Sangeet Mahasamman.

The Chief Minister extended condolences to Ustad Rashid Khan's family, emphasizing their closeness during the maestro's final journey. She acknowledged his advisory role in various state cultural bodies. Leader of the Opposition, Suvendu Adhikari, also conveyed his heartfelt condolences, describing the maestro's departure as a significant loss in the realm of music, particularly Hindustani Classical Music. He wished for peace for Ustad Rashid Khan's soul and offered condolences to the family, colleagues, and countless fans.
