Borsley to champion disability rights as second Vice President

CAIRO, Jan 13: Rehab Borsley, Chairwoman of the Board of Directors of the Kuwaiti Association for Families of Persons with Disabilities, has been elected as the Second Vice President of the Arab Organization for Persons with Disabilities for the 2025-2028 term. This was decided during the elections of the Executive Office of the organization, which took place at the Seventh General Conference of the Arab Organization for Persons with Disabilities in Cairo. Members of the Executive Office, the Board of Commissioners, and the General Assembly attended the event.

Borsley expressed her gratitude and pride in receiving the trust of the General Assembly members, emphasizing that this responsibility requires intensified efforts to achieve the organization's mission. She highlighted the ongoing challenges faced by persons with disabilities in the region, stressing the need to implement the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities and enhance community awareness about disability to support the achievement of the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals related to disability.

She also acknowledged the significant efforts made by the Arab Organization for Persons with Disabilities since its establishment in 1998, particularly in advancing the rights of persons with disabilities and improving their quality of life through various projects, initiatives, workshops, seminars, and training courses aimed at highlighting the issues faced by individuals with disabilities.

During the same General Assembly meeting, the newly elected Executive Office of the Arab Organization for Persons with Disabilities included Dr. Nawaf Kabbara as President, Muwaffaq Tawfiq Al-Khafaji as First Vice President, Rehab Borsley as Second Vice President, Abdul Majeed Al-Makni as Secretary, and Yasser Musa as Treasurer.
