KUWAIT CITY, Dec 18: Brigadier Mohammad Al-Gharib, Director of the Public Relations and Media Department at the Kuwait Fire Force (KFF), highlighted the importance of adhering to fire prevention and safety procedures during the 2024-2025 camping season in Kuwait.
In an interview with the Kuwait News Agency (KUNA), Brigadier Al-Gharib emphasized several key safety measures that campers should follow. These include maintaining a safe distance of at least 5 to 6 meters between tents, and ensuring that tents are positioned at least 10 meters away from kitchens or generators.
He also stressed the need for caution when handling electrical extensions inside tents, advising that damaged or exposed wires should not be used. Electrical extensions should be installed according to the standards set by the Ministry of Electricity and Water.
Brigadier Al-Gharib also warned against setting up camps near high-voltage power towers or in restricted areas, such as military installations and oil fields. It is crucial to choose safe, elevated locations to avoid the risk of floods following rainfall.
Additionally, he cautioned against using wooden floors inside tents and emphasized the importance of ensuring there are sufficient exits in proportion to the tent’s size. Charcoal stoves should be avoided in enclosed spaces, whether inside tents or homes. If the use of charcoal is necessary, it is vital to ensure that the charcoal is fully ignited and that proper ventilation is provided. The stove should always be removed before going to sleep, and the charcoal must be extinguished safely in a designated area.
Brigadier Al-Gharib also urged parents to supervise their children closely, preventing them from tampering with heat sources. He stressed the importance of having fire protection equipment, such as extinguishers, fire blankets, and first aid kits, available inside the tent.
The Public Relations and Media Department at the General Fire Force has been actively reminding the public about safety regulations to prevent fires and accidents. These efforts aim to protect lives and property while reducing the risk of violations. Brigadier Al-Gharib explained that the department organizes awareness campaigns for desert and camp visitors, conducts field visits in coordination with relevant authorities, and distributes safety brochures and fire prevention equipment. These initiatives help familiarize the public with safety procedures, starting with choosing appropriate camping locations.
Brigadier Al-Gharib urged citizens and residents to follow safety protocols both at home and in camps. This includes acquiring and maintaining fire protection equipment, learning how to use it, and training everyone in the household to do so.
According to statistics from the General Fire Force, from January 1, 2023, to December 31, 2023, there were 59 incidents of placing heat sources near flammable materials, such as coal or heaters.
