KUWAIT CITY, May 14: Rehab Bouresli, National Director of Special Olympics Kuwait, emphasized the imperative of heightened efforts across all sectors of society to tangibly realize the concept of inclusion for individuals with disabilities. She delivered this message during her lecture at a symposium organized by the Information Systems and Operations Management Club at the College of Administrative Sciences, titled “Exploring Special Olympics.” The event featured Bouresli alongside Dr. Ali Dashti from the Information Systems Department and was attended by members of the Board of Directors as well as athletes from Special Olympics Kuwait Club and Al-Amouh Sports Club.

During the symposium, Bouresli commenced by shedding light on Kuwait’s longstanding commitment, dating back to the 1950s, towards the welfare of individuals with disabilities. She traced the evolution of these efforts, culminating in the enactment of Law 8 of 2010, which extends beyond the provisions and aspirations of the International Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities.

Bouresli elaborated on the overarching objectives of the Special Olympics, which revolve around fostering an inclusive society for individuals with intellectual disabilities. This is achieved through a multifaceted approach, encompassing sports, healthcare, and social programs for athletes, as well as training and awareness initiatives for their families. Additionally, the Special Olympics offers training programs catering to coaches, medical professionals, and volunteers, thereby contributing to the holistic development and well-being of individuals with disabilities.
