KUWAIT CITY, April 22: Burgan Club’s first volleyball team has made it clear: It is competing in this season’s Premier League with one goal in mind — to win the title. The team earned the nickname “Big Hunter” after a commanding 3-1 victory over Kazma in the fifth round.
Burgan had already made a strong statement earlier in the season, opening its campaign with a win over defending champion Kuwait Club, followed by a triumph over Al-Shabab.
The latest victory over Kazma propelled Burgan to the top of the league standings with eight points. Kazma follows with six, Kuwait Club sits in third with four, Al-Qadsiya has three, while both Al-Arabi and Al-Shabab are yet to register any points.
Under the leadership of Argentine head coach Alejandro Grossi and assistant coach Ahmed Al-Houli, Burgan has built a squad capable of challenging the league’s elite. The team has also benefited from strong backing by the club’s management and volleyball department.
In the First Division Volleyball League, Al-Yarmouk defeated Al-Sahel 3-1, while Al-Nasr swept Al-Tadamon 3-0 in matches played the day before yesterday.
With this result, Al-Nasr now leads the standings with six points, edging out Al-Sulaibikhat on set-point difference. Al-Yarmouk holds three points, while Al-Sahel and Al-Tadamon remain scoreless.
